Dering Aids In Reduction of Falls Among Older Pennsylvanians
Dering is proud to share a Pennsylvania-wide success story in which we play a critical role. A release from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health reports that The PA Office of the Aging’s Healthy Steps for Older Adults has reduced falls among the elderly by 17%.
Dering’s role in this success story includes the initial development and on-going revisions of the materials for the instructor training and certification programs for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s Healthy Steps for Older Adults and Healthy Steps in Motion programs.
Dering designed a blended learning approach to certification requiring completion of both online and classroom sessions. This makes the best use of classroom time (for experiential learning) and participant time (completing online training on their schedules).
In addition, Dering supplements initial instructor training with online videos as refreshers. Dering also developed and delivers a Master Trainer Certification program to expand the pool of individuals who can provide instructor trainings.
Complementing training services are Dering’s project management, training administration and program assessment services. Each year, Dering analyzes HSOA and HSIM program data and writes an annual report for these Department of Aging.
